Summary

Infinity was responsible for the FEED delivery of the subsea hardware scope on a deepwater development in the South China Sea, covering the subsea production system through to a defined package basis.

Overview

The development sits in deep water in a region with a limited established supply chain compared with the North Sea, which places more weight on getting the hardware definition right before enquiry. Infinity held the subsea hardware scope through FEED, taking the system from a concept-level architecture to a defined equipment basis capable of supporting procurement, covering trees, controls, structures and the interfaces between them.

Objective

  • Define the subsea production system hardware to a FEED level of definition
  • Establish equipment and interface requirements suitable for enquiry
  • Resolve interfaces between hardware packages before procurement
  • Deliver a subsea basis consistent with deepwater installation and intervention constraints

Key findings

  • Hardware definition maturity at the end of FEED determined how much risk transferred into procurement
  • Interface resolution between packages was the highest-value activity in the phase
  • Well count and drill-centre layout, set by the subsurface development plan, shaped the hardware basis more than throughput
  • Regional supply chain differences required the equipment basis to be defined more tightly than a North Sea equivalent
  • A single team holding the full hardware scope avoided the interface gaps that arise when packages are split

Differentiator

Infinity’s subsea hardware specialists cover trees, controls, structures and umbilicals as one integrated capability rather than separate disciplines, so the interfaces between packages are owned rather than negotiated between teams.

Outcome

The development progressed from FEED with a defined subsea hardware basis and resolved package interfaces. It remains one of Infinity’s most geographically distant deepwater deliveries and demonstrates capability well beyond the North Sea.
