Summary

Infinity provided field development engineering support to the FEED phase of a national gas development in the Black Sea, delivering formal analysis reports to the EPC contractor through two issued revisions.

Overview

The development is a strategically significant gas project for its host country, being brought forward at pace and in a challenging deepwater setting. Infinity supported the second phase of the FEED, working from the reservoir deliverability profiles to assess how the production system would behave across its operating range, including start-up, shutdown and turndown conditions, and how those behaviours should shape the design. The work was delivered as formally issued engineering reports forming part of the FEED deliverable set.

Objective

  • Assess production system behaviour across the full operating envelope
  • Confirm the design basis held under transient operating conditions
  • Support system sizing and operating philosophy decisions during FEED
  • Deliver formal engineering reports to the contractor's document control requirements

Key findings

  • System behaviour under start-up and shutdown drove design decisions more than steady-state operation
  • Operating philosophy and equipment sizing had to be resolved together rather than sequentially
  • Deepwater conditions narrowed the acceptable operating envelope and required explicit design margin
  • Formal report issue through revision gave the contractor a traceable engineering basis for the FEED
  • Supporting a national development required alignment with the contractor's document control and approval regime

Differentiator

Infinity delivered into an international EPC contractor’s document control system on a nationally significant project, to that contractor’s standards and timescales, from the UK. The engineering was held to the same formality as a North Sea FEED deliverable.

Outcome

The contractor received issued engineering reports supporting the FEED for one of the region’s most significant gas developments, contributing to the design basis for a project of national importance.
