Summary

We developed a technically robust, operations-led condensate-as-fuel solution for a late-life offshore asset, enabling the operator to extend gas-turbine power generation, reduce diesel dependency and improve overall energy efficiency through a targeted brownfield modification.

Overview

An operator client was experiencing declining fuel gas availability in late field life due to reservoir characteristics, increasing reliance on diesel-powered generation. We were engaged through Concept Select and FEED to assess whether produced condensate could be safely and reliably used alongside existing fuel gas to power gas turbines, while remaining within fuel specifications and material limits and avoiding disruption to the main process.

Objective

  • Establish the technical feasibility of using a mixed gas-and-condensate stream as gas turbine fuel
  • Identify a preferred, low-complexity process concept suitable for brownfield implementation
  • Define the minimum modifications required to existing fuel gas, utilities and control systems
  • Progress the selected concept to FEED maturity with a clear basis for Execute decision-making.

Key findings

  • Selected a low-complexity mixed gas–liquid fuel concept that enables safe, reliable turbine operation with minimal new equipment and no adverse impact on the main process.
  • Process modelling indicated the approach can materially extend gas-fuelled turbine generation in late field life, delaying the shift to diesel-only operation.
  • Heating and conditioning requirements were defined at a FEED-ready level to confirm the concept is deliverable within practical brownfield utility and power constraints.
  • Existing fuel system material and temperature limits were identified early, enabling targeted modifications rather than a full system redesign.
  • A simple, operations-led control philosophy was developed to maintain safe operability and reduce implementation risk.

Differentiator

We applied an operations-led brownfield mindset, prioritising minimum intervention, early vendor engagement and a simple, robust control philosophy. This avoided over-design while maintaining safety, operability and compliance within existing asset constraints.

Outcome

We delivered the condensate-as-fuel solution through Concept Select, pre-FEED and FEED, underpinned by rigorous process analysis and pragmatic engineering judgement. The completed FEED provides the operator with a clear, executable design to extend gas-turbine power generation, materially reduce diesel dependency and support lower-emissions operations across the remaining asset life.
